Steve’s guest is Chris Williamson, former MP and shadow minister for the UK’s Labour Party, currently deputy leader of the Workers Party of Britain, and host of Palestine Declassified.
After Hurricane Michael, the Northern Gulf Coast was devastated. I believe it was FEMA who instituted a jobs program. The program paid above-local wages, and employed hundreds of locals in non-profits and public sector jobs. I worked helping administer the program for two years. Anyone could take part and could leave and come back. Local people with money allowed the private sector to recover as well. Our region recovered.
Good stuff. Chris has a bit more faith in the electoral process than I but I respect his efforts in trying to get a figure like Jeremy Corbyn to #LearnMMT albeit in vain much like many in the US unsuccessfully tried to get Bernie Sanders to learn and go public about it.
Electoral politics UK style! Interesting to see it from the perspective of a veteran of the Labour wars. Defenders of capital use the same ammo (misinformation) and the same weapons (mainstream media). I remember the horror of Tony Blair’s New Labour. Then, for a brief moment, there seemed to be a possibility for course correction with Corbyn. But no. The arc of capitalism will not be deterred. History marches on!
