This episode was awesome! I especially loved that Erald explained that our country’s actions have caused the migration of people from Central and South America.

When you see folks vehemently against "illegals", then you need to shake the humanity back into them and educate how global migration flows stem from the cruelty of empire.

Capitalism always creates migration crises around the world through imperialist wars for profit and destabilization of countries which choose to be independent of the imperialist sphere of influence. As a physicist, Erald Kolasi has provided fantastic insights on every Macro N Cheese episode he appears on.

This was such a powerful discussion. The breakdown of Wallerstein’s core-periphery model was excellent and pairing it with the "migration boomerang" effect, using Guatemala and El Salvador to show how US destabilization directly creates refugee flows, was incredibly insightful. I was also blown away by the connection drawn between the 1858 Ottoman land reforms and Palestinian displacement. Most of all, the crucial reminder to direct our anger upward at capitalists, not horizontally at fellow workers, really ties it all together.

Thank you, Erald and Steve, for another important episode driving home the point that capitalism's methods evolve, but its essence remains constant. The expropriation of labor (and life).

Capitalists in the imperial core destabilize foreign governments, force land transfers, and create migration flows to fill their need for cheap labor and resources. But when economic conditions turn, they quickly blame the very “migration boomerangs” which they themselves created.
